Opening of the First National Kids Day Festival in Washington, D.C. The National Kids Day is the first Sunday of August, and the D.C. festival was one of hundreds across the nation. Chapters of organizations such as Boys and Girls Clubs of America, the YMCA and the American Red Cross sponsored the local festival.
